‘Blue Moon’ Freshwater Pearl & Gemstone Butterfly Necklace

Hypolimnas bolina or commonly known as The Great Eggfly or Blue Moon butterfly adorned with an Abalone center piece & pendant, Freshwater Pearls, Mother of Pearl, Agate,  Labradorite & Green Aventurine gemstones on a  Stainless Steel base.

A few interesting facts:

The Great Eggfly has an incredibly wide geographic footprint, spanning from East Africa across Southern Asia, all the way to the islands of the Pacific Ocean. This is a male as it has deep black wings marked with white spots that are surrounded by a glowing, iridescent blue-violet fringe. The females are mostly dark brown or olive with white and orange markings. They earned their name because the females take great care of their young by staying close to guard their eggs. The males are very territorial, perching on branches to watch for rivals, and chase away potential predators. Females use Batesian mimicry, copying the look of toxic common crow butterflies (Euploea) to deter birds.
